The Start of the New Future.
In the near future, an "End of the World Class" asteroid, moving from beyond the solar system, will approach Earth, sparking panic and an epic escape from the planet. Just when everything seems destined to go from bad to worse, the large asteroid shatters. The fragments, of varying sizes, rain down on Earth, causing a deluge and a nuclear winter.
Humanity, however, is resilient and survives. Not only in space states, but also on Earth, where states are slowly reforming.
Meanwhile, the solar system is splitting into many states, the most prominent of which are the Galilean Empire on Jupiter and the Lunar League on the Moon, the system's two superpowers.
Chronology:
20XX - Nemesis is sighted beyond the orbit of Pluto.
Although the dwarf planet takes more than 10 years to reach Earth, the failure of the United Nations to coordinate a joint operation sparks panic and various escape plans to new worlds in the solar system.
1 AN (Annus Nemesis). Nemesis reaches Earth, but struck by nuclear missiles from several powers and unable to withstand Earth's gravity, it shatters, unleashing a shower of small but dangerous asteroids. Many cities and nations are destroyed, but ultimately, despite the immense damage, the planet survives.
5 AN: The asteroid Ceres is transformed into a vast food greenhouse where grains are grown to support Earth's population. However, it is not yet a habitable settlement; in fact, it is mostly operated by robots.
15 AN: Venera, a Russian space station, becomes the first permanent extraterrestrial settlement operated by the Russian space agency.
10-50 AN: Mars is, however, the planet chosen by the UN and the Far Future Foundation for human colonization.
20 AN: NASA and a conglomerate of Japanese Zaibatsu called Shogun Advanced Industries build mining settlements on the Moon.
21-105 AN: Collapse of the world order. Dissolution of Russia, the USA, and China. Wars in Europe, the Middle East, India, and South America.
This period is known as "The Great Collapse."
35 AN: The French company Concord Association begins construction of a water-extraction settlement on Europa. Life is discovered: bony fish, jellyfish, crustaceans, and cetaceans.
47 AN: The FFF acquires the Concord Association. The Martian League is formed, which technically also includes the asteroid belt, but it is effectively under the control of the Corporations.
50 AN: The Jovian Union is formed, thanks to the immigration of numerous Earth colonists from Mars.
62 AN: The Eisenwerken, based on Bamberg, welcomes numerous refugees of Germanic origin, supposedly headed for Jupiter.
67 AN: The Lunar League is formed on the Moon. Currently, it consists of only three colonies (Tycho, Langrenus, Heisei Region).
69 AN: A Republic independent of Mars is proclaimed on Pallas. The same year, a republic is proclaimed on Bamberg.
79 AN: Yuhe Alcantar, director of Ceres Agribusiness, abolishes the Republic Statute and establishes a corporate dictatorship.
88 AN: The Commander of the Bamberg Republic Defense Fleet, with the support of the Eisenwerken through rigged elections, proclaims the Monarchy of Valhall, ascending to the throne as Raedar I Kene.
97 AN: The Martian League orders the Jovian Union, which is technically a colonial state on Mars, to shut down a series of newspapers and TV stations criticizing the League for exploiting the resources of the Galilean satellites.
98-111 AN: Jovian Civil War.
Thanks to the Far Future Foundation, which effectively embargoes the Martian League, the war quickly turns in Jupiter's favor.
100 AN: Xander Alcantar proclaims himself Prince of Ceres in a military coup.
109 AN: The Republic of Pallas elects Marin Lone as Princess of Pallas. Beginning of the Principality of Pallas.
113 AN: Leda's Pronouncement. General Isaac Zendrell proclaims himself military dictator, dissolves the Congress, and appoints the States General.
115 AN: The States General of Jupiter proclaim the Empire of Galileo and crown Isaac Emperor of Galileo and all Jupiter.
144 AN: The West African countries form the African Union.
163 AN: The Republic of Inner China, after a long conflict with Greater Mongolia and the Second Manchurian Empire, forms a Chinese national government that reunites much of pre-collapse China.
202 AN: Berkah Lone dies without an heir. His successor, Stig Hata, must defend himself from an attempt by his nephew to usurp the throne, aided by a commando of Galilean forces.
200-205 AN: Rising political tensions in the solar system, especially the rise of Galileo's military power and the increasing lunar influence in the Belt, lead to the outbreak of the Belt War.
Despite the high number of casualties and destruction wrought on Earth and Mars, the war is ultimately a draw.
202 AN: Imperial Marines land in Madagascar. The African Union reforms as the African Alliance.
217 AN: Stig Hata dies without an heir, and the throne of Pallas passes to Albert Nabanan by popular vote.
218-222 AN: The African Alliance fights secessionist South Africa, which, however, with Galileo's help, manages to free itself and proclaim the Union of Free South African States.
241-266 AN: War of the Nile. The African Alliance's victory over Egypt is costly in terms of resources and human lives, but it remains a decisive victory, preventing Egyptian expansion southward.
257: (Mysterious) death of David II, accession of Isaac II Zendrel.
261 AN: A group of pirates, calling themselves "New Swabia" or Occupies Bamberg, a mining base belonging to the Belt Clan.
266-270 AN: Oman invades Yemen, which appeals for aid from the African Alliance. The invasion of Galileo and the Free States of South Africa forces a peace.
270-279 AN: Wars of Reduction. A series of conflicts, mostly by proxy, between the Lunar League and the Galileo Empire to secure dominion over Mars and Earth.
276-278 AN: Second Korean War. The Empire of Japan and the Republic of Inner China compete for the Korean Peninsula. The war is a draw, but demonstrates the strength of the RIC. Japan joins the Lunar League.
277 AN: The African Alliance sees the Ethiopian front collapse, Galileo's army marches on Addis Ababa, the Alliance capital. In the Peace Treaty, Kenya is transferred to Imperial administration. The AA reforms into the Pan-African Allied Nations (PAAN).
272-282 AN: Valahalla War. New Swabia, now renamed Valhall, launches a war of conquest in the Belt.
The involvement of the Lunar League and the Galilean Empire forces Valhalla to surrender.
270 AN: California, an ally of the Lunar League, is admitted as the 10th state of the League.
279 AN: The Lowenwolf, a corps of cyborg mercenaries, conquers the Sollin space cylinder, around the Daphen Asteroid, and establishes its base.
285 AN: The Interamnia Crisis begins, an asteroid occupied by House Kemmsieg and linked to Hygeia Station through marital ties.
285-287 AN: The Martian Union attacks the Hesperia Combine.
288-291 AN: Pallas, which was extracting water from icy asteroids in the area, refuses to withdraw its troops, leading to conflict.
290 AN: Stavros V ascends to the throne of Hellas, launching an offensive against the Hesperian Confederacy, which proves a failure.
297 AN: Xander III Alcantar becomes Prince of Ceres.
